World Cup 2026 is the first 48-team FIFA World Cup — up from 32 at Qatar 2022. More nations, more group games, and a Round of 32 that did not exist in previous editions.

Group Stage (June 11 – June 27)

Each team plays three group matches. Standard FIFA points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss.

Advance from groups:

1. First and second in each of 12 groups → 24 teams
2. Eight best third-placed teams (ranked across all groups) → 8 teams

Knockout Stage (June 28 – July 19)

32 teams enter the Round of 32 — winners of each R32 tie progress to the Round of 16, then quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final on July 19.
